When do I need a filling?
Your tooth or molar can be filled if you have a cavity (tooth decay) or if your molar breaks. An existing filling sometimes needs replacing, for example if it is cracked. A filling allows you to chew properly again and prevents further (painful) problems. If your gums have receded slightly, the necks of your teeth are exposed. This can cause sensitivity to cold or hot drinks. We can then cover the neck of the tooth with a filling.
How is a tooth filled?
If necessary, we first numb the tooth or molar. We then drill away the decay or the old filling. Once the molar is completely clean and dry, it is etched to roughen the tissue so the filling bonds better. A special bonding layer is then applied, on which the filling is built up in layers. In between, the filling material is hardened with a blue light. Finally, the filling is polished to create a smooth, non-porous surface. The treatment is usually completed in one session.
Please note!
After the treatment, the tooth or molar may be somewhat sensitive. This should pass after a few weeks (6 at most). Sometimes a filling is slightly too high; we can adjust this. If the symptoms do not decrease or get worse, please contact us. If the filling is deep, root canal treatment may (still) be needed.
How much does this treatment cost?
Loef uses composite fillings instead of amalgam
Small corrections can be made with high-tech composite fillings. Compared to amalgam, composite is an aesthetic, tooth-coloured material. Amalgam fillings contain mercury — a reason for us not to offer them, so you can smile healthily and beautifully.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a white filling last?
A white (composite) filling can last for years. Of course, its lifespan depends on your oral hygiene and eating and drinking habits.
What is a white filling?
A white filling consists of small glass particles in a synthetic resin. It can be used to repair small cavities or irregularities in the teeth. The name ‘white filling’ comes from the white material used, in contrast to amalgam fillings, which are silver-coloured.
What are the advantages of a white filling?
First of all, a composite filling looks better, because it is white and therefore less visible. This material also bonds better to the tooth, and you can eat again immediately after treatment because it is hardened straight away.
